Bob Brandt is dedicated to keep
improving the down town landscape and Steve
Schutz keeps those thirsty plants watered.

Condolences to Ben Leseberg and family on the passing
of his mother, Melanie.

Another county fair is in the books. There were a lot of
changes this year, older folks being the most vocal about the
loss of parking near the Fair Center. Also a big topic during the
fair was the change of dates for 2015 and the probable loss of
the midway and rides. Hope you took a good look at the Ferris
wheel, it might be the last time you'll see one in Syracuse.

Bob & Barb Wilhelm returned home from a short trip to
North Dakota. The major point of attraction was the Ft.
Abraham Lincoln State Park. What an interesting place! It is
home to a true replica of General Custer's home and the
soldier's barracks. The Ft. is where Custer and his men were
stationed leading up to the battle of the Little Big Horn. Did you
know that the general's brothers, Thomas and Boston, were
also killed in the battle, as were two nephews, Autie Reed and
Jimmi Calhoun.

It also has the "On-the-Slant" village of the Mandan Indians.
The museum is housed in a building erected during the 1930's
by the CCC program, and includes displays of the Civil War,
Mandan Indian life, and the CCC works. The museum is small
but has so much information!

The weekend held many activities in and around Bismarck,
celebrating the 125th anniversary of North Dakota becoming
a state. The most amazing things: the vast fields of sunflowers
and finding a statue of Larry the Cable Guy out in the
middle of nowhere!

Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the Eighteenth ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE. This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 12, at 2:30 PM, downstairs in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse. In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. There will also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest.
Contestants can pre-register on line (http://www.greenblattandseay.
Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, and $1.00 for children. Fiddlers and their back-ups are admitted for free. The contest will be followed by a light snack and an acoustic jam session.
