Five members of the Books & Brew Book Club met Tuesday,

October 21. Nina Rohlfs provided a delicious brunch to enjoy

along with the book discussion. Next meeting will be

November 18 at the Community Library and the book will

be "Good Night June" by Sarah Jio. Gera Stilwell will be

the hostess - please join us if you can!

Thank you to Dave & Monica Finigan for their most

generous donation to the Unadilla Cemetery. Dave has

provided OCGS with a family history and many photos

of the Finigan family.

Wasn't it a beautiful weekend? The weatherman says

it will probably be the last one for awile. In our travels

over the weekend we managed an afternoon at Indian

Cave State Park. We didn't get to go on the haunted

hayrack ride, but we did see some "spooky" stuff.

Some of you may remember Inez Hahne's parents. Her

mother, Effie, moved to St. Deroin (remnants of this

settlement remain) in her teenage years, and her father,

James, did a lot of good work in promoting St. Deroin,

which is contained inside the boundaries of Indian Cave

State Park, and the park itself. In the next year the beach

will be completed along with a water recreation area.

UNADILLA LIBRARY BOARD

Oct. 22, 2014

A meeting of the Unadilla Library Board was called to order by President Peggy Leefers at 9:00 a.m. on Oct. 22, 2014. Those present were, Peggy Leefers, Lois Ebert, Jean Lucas, Rose Marie Brandt, Sue Saathoff, and Alberta Block.

The first order of business was to welcome Sue and thank her for being a great help to Peggy over the last few months. She is a willing and capable help, and very much appreciated.

Peggy and Sue have recently incorporated a Western Theme Section to our library, which has been requested on several occasions. More books will be added to this section in the near future.

We were told that there are new Sarah Jio books becoming available in November. Her books have been checked out frequently.

Peggy has donated three new books by Gayle Foreman. A little review of one of those books was presented and sounds very interesting. Peggy noted that one entitled “If I Stay”, has been made into a movie. There are two other books which are sequels to that one.

The room off of the gym that used to hold exercise equipment is now being made into a childrens room. The Community Center is booked for nearly every week end until after the Holidays, so a room for children to play will be a big asset. Some books from the library will be moved there, and a rack to hold them will be placed in that room, along with some fun and sturdy play equipment, purchased with funds from the Jerry Leefers’ memorial. A few DVD’s which would be of interest to young children will also be available for use in there. There is also a foosball table being donated which will be placed on the stage.

Peggy reports that there is much interest from venders and non profits who wish space for the Ground Hog Day Celebration. The board authorized the purchase of more Ground Hog Books, Pins, Cookie Cutters and possibly color books to be sold on that day, and a few left at the Bank for sale upon request. Peggy asked everyone to spread the word that Christie Brehm will again be handling the quilt show, and wants any quilts to be displayed that would be of interest to visitors to that room.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
