Friday, January 23, Books & Brew Book Club met at the 

Community Library. The chosen title was "A Lantern in Her Hand"

by Bess Streeter Aldrich, and a lively discussion followed. The

general consensus was that modern life for a woman is considerably

less work than for the pioneer women who settled in Otoe County.

Similarities between the main character, Abby Deal, and our

mothers, grandmothers, and aunts were also among the reminisces. 

The club will meet again on February 17 and everyone will

read "Oh My Stars" by Lorna Landvik.

The Village Office has had several complaints about

dogs running at large around town. Please remember

that once your pet leaves your property it needs

to be on a leash.

Karen Schwartman, and Bill Davis.

Peggy Leefers, Bob, and I were treated to a special

sight Sunday. We got to see in person the "miniature Unadilla".

It is absolutely amazing! The time, effort, and patience

that has went into this project is unbelievable. Please stop

at the Library on Groundhog Day to view it.

A large crowd attended the program, "A History of Palmyra",

at the activities center in Palmyra. It was organized by

Glenda Willnerd, Palmyra librarian. The dvd was shot by

Bob Fey and narrated by Gera Stilwell. There will be a 

copy for you to view at the Unadilla Library soon.

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

Friday, 1-29-1915, The Otoe Union:

Roy Parker, Unadilla, and Edith Pegler, Palmyra, were

married on 1-20-1915. They would begin their married life in

Holt County, Nebraska. Hazel Horstman, age 6, and the

daughter of Henry Horstman's, died and was buried in the

Unadilla Cemetery. Will H. Bartels, Syracuse, and Anna M.

Knickmann, Unadilla, applied for a marriage license.

S.J. Cross, 4 miles south and 1 mile east of Unadilla,

(also known as the Shull farm), was quitting farming.

His sale included 67 head of livestock and 12 mules

and horses.
