By all accounts the Methodist Church ice cream social
was a huge success and everyone had a good time.

OCGS met Saturday Morning, 8-15, in the Resource Room
of the Unadilla Community Center, with 10 members present.
After a short business meeting, the Rural Schools Conference
we are hosting at Peru State College in 2016 was discussed.
Tentative dates and agenda were announced, as well as a
list of volunteer jobs. Watch for more news on this later. After
the meeting, members toured the "Veterans" Room and the
"History" Room, with lots of good comments. There was
also a lot of praise for the Village for using the space for such
a good cause. Next meeting will be September 19. Join us!

Condolences to the family and many friends of
Virgil Ted Halvorsen, who passed away 8-17. He
will be laid to rest in the Rosewood Cemetery at Palmyra.
Books & Brew Book Club met Tuesday morning, 8-18,
in the Community Library. Each member chose a different
book by Stuart Woods and then gave a short review. Barb
Wilhelm brought treats. Next meeting will be Tuesday,
September 15. Each member chose a title by the
author John Sanford.
Featured Author for August is John Sanford who has written over 40 novels. His most popular series include "Lucas Davenport" -- the Prey Series of 25 novels -- a detective set in Minneapolis. Other series include the characters "Kidd" -- an artist who does undercover work -- and "Virgil Flowers" -- another Minneapolis detective. Once you read one of the books from a series, you definitely want to read more -- like coming back to old friends. The Library has the majority of Sanford's books -- stop in and check them out.
Hours: Thursday -- 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Saturday -- 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

With all the rain we've gotten lots of "mushrooms" growing
in the yard, but they don't get very big because it seems like
we mow every other day. That's why this one was such a
surprise. We could see it out the kitchen window and it was
down by the south fruit trees.

The Unadilla Open will be held at the Wildwood Golf Course
in Nebraska City on Sept. 20 at 1:00 p.m. Fee is $20 for 9 holes
and includes the cart. The sign up sheet is in The Bar.
