Tuesday, November 17, Books & Brew Book Club met with
all members present. Various books written by Kristen Hannah
were reviewed, being enjoyed by most members. Gera Stilwell
was the hostess and treated everyone to a yummy breakfast
casserole. Next meeting will be Tuesday, December 15, and
all members will read a book by Sandra Brown. Please join us
if you can - all those attending should bring cookies
for exchanging.

Bob & Barb Wilhelm and families enjoyed a relaxing and
refreshing weekend at Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City.
The kids even got Bob in the water!

Did you know that since Lincoln's presidency, Thanksgiving
was always celebrated the last Thursday in November? In 1939
the last Thursday would have been the 30th. Retail lobbyists
campaigned for a change to move it back a week to the 23rd,
fearing a shortened shopping season would wreak havoc
on business coffers. The public didn't like it because it
disrupted vacation plans, football schedules, and calendar
production. Since it wasn't a federal law, the states could choose
which day they wanted. So in 1939 and 1940, there was a
"Republican's Thanksgiving" and a "Roosevelt's Thanksgiving"
also known as "Franksgiving". In 1941 Congress passed a law
that officially set the date as the fourth Thursday in November.

Here's hoping all your family makes it home for Thanksgiving
safely - have a wonderful holiday!

The day after, of course, signals the start of the Christmas
shopping frenzy. Please remember to patronize local businesses
on Saturday, November 28, "Small Business Saturday".

Congratulations to Chris Dankleff & Taylor Hull
who were married 11-21.
Belated anniversary wishes to Harv & Maureen Vogt
who celebrated on 11-22.
