2016 King & Queen voting has begun!
Our electricity was out from 1:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. on Thursday,
1-7, and the outage area was quite large. Kudos to the OPPD
crew for their work, it was a miserable day to be outside.
OCGS held their meeting Saturday, 1-9, at the Syracuse
Library. Election of officers were held and presentations
were given by Earl Underwood and Daniel Harder. There
was much discussion on the Nebraska Rural Schools Conference
we will be co-hosting with Peru State College in July.
New officers are: President, Betty Stuckenholz; Vice-President,
Mona Kuhlenengel; retaining their office is Secretary, Barb
Wilhelm, and Treasurer, Linda Parde. Next meeting will be
February 20th at the Unadilla Community Resource Room.
All are welcome.

Condolences to the Richard & Kathy Lechner families
on the passing of Richard's mother, Joan K. Lechner.
She will be laid to rest in Park Hill Cemetery, Syracuse.

You know we will have a big snow eventually this winter.
Dwight & Arlin would like to remind Unadilla residents to
move their vehicles off the street when they are plowing
snow. Main street, and exit/enter streets are done first.
Then north/south streets, the first being past the Community
Center. Next the east/west streets, and lastly, the alleys.
Thanks in advance for your patience and help.

This time of year there are always lots of water problems.
It is a good time to remind the public that of all the earth's
water, 97% is salt water found in oceans and seas. Only
1% of the earth's water is available for drinking, and 2%
of all water is frozen. How lucky we are here in Nebraska!

School was closed due to the severe cold. The day began
at -8 degrees and ended at -21 degrees. Also, the rural
carriers did not go out and deliver mail. Several residents
were suffering from "the grippe". (According to the
dictionary, "A disease like or the same as, influenza,
it's first known use of the word was in 1776.)

The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska will be hosting a special "Schoolhouse Celtic Fiddling Camp", for fiddlers, violists, mandolinists, guitarists, and ukulele players. Music from Ireland, Scotland, and Wales will be featured. The sessions will be led by championship fiddler and author, Deborah Greenblatt. Each participant will receive a copy of Deborah's latest publication, the Celtic Fiddler's Song Book.
The camp will be on Wednesday, March 9 - Friday, March 11, from 9 AM to 1 PM. You can sign up for 1 day, or 2 days, or all 3 days.
On Wednesday, participants will be mostly reading tunes, using sheet music in standard notation. We'll be learning melodies, harmonies, and chords. You will be improving your sight reading, and experiencing fiddling fun.
On Thursday, we will be mostly playing tunes by ear, so feel free to bring your recording gadgets. Sheet music versions of the tunes will be provided for you by the end of the day, just in case your ears need the help.
On Friday, we will be mostly jamming, modulating, singing, dancing, experimenting, sharing, and playing fiddle related instruments.
One day: $60.00
Two days: $110.00 ($55 per day)
Three days: $150.00 fee for 3 days. ($50 per day)
