Autumn Wardyn would like to thank everyone who came to the
Cindy Bassinger Kicking Cancer fundraiser. There was a
great crowd and the organizers did a wonderful job. Saw lots
of friends we hadn't seen for a long time. Don't you just love
how our town pulls together?

Looking for a day trip? How about the National Guard
Museum that opened in Seward last week? It is open
Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., at no charge.
The address is 201 N. 8th Street. And while you're in the
area you can check out the Marble Museum in York!

We have been seeing hummingbirds again -
got your feeder out?

And an unusually large amount of Monarchs.
Haven't gotten a report on the Methodist Church ice cream
social, but by the number of cars on the surrounding streets,
we would say it was a huge success!

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

Friday, 8-25-1916, The Otoe Union:
Mahlon Kline, who operated the meat market in Unadilla,
sold his business and property to a Mrs. Lunsford in
exchange for her general store and 20 acres at St. Deroin
(Indian Cave State Park). Her sons, Lee and John, would
move to Unadilla with her. The editor commented,
"We are frank to admit that dead men tell no tales but a
lot of tales are told about them after they are dead."

LPS 9/11 Ceremony

On Friday, September 9, 2016 Louisville High School will be hosting a ceremony to acknowledge and honor the memory of those who fell on September 11, 2001. We are very fortunate to have Master Sergeant Joshua D. Hammerling as our speaker for the morning, along with artifacts from the Twin Towers, provided by the Irvington Fire Department. The Ceremony will begin at 9:30 am in the high school gym. If you would like to join us, please RSVP with Mrs. Dana March at (402) 234-3585

Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the 20th ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE. This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 9, at 2:30 PM, downstairs in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse. In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. There will also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest.
For more information, and to register on line, log on to: http://www.greenblattandseay.com/schoolhouse_fiddling_bee
Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, and $1.00 for children. Fiddlers and their back-ups are admitted for free. The contest will be followed by a light snack and an acoustic jam session with Greenblatt & Seay.
