Last Tuesday afternoon, the Unadilla Area Fund met at the
Duncan Building. Election of officers was held, with the only
change being Maureen Vogt will be the new Vice President.
The All Fund Drive was discussed and Corinne Zahn provided
us with the latest breakdown. The total is a little over $9000; we
are so blessed to be a part of this generous community!
Preparations for Groundhog Day (first Saturday in February),
were discussed, and Sue Saathoff, Secretary, reminded us that
the new time for the parade start is 2:00 p.m. Afterwards, 33
residents and neighbors attended the reception for light refresh-
ments. New members of the community were introduced and told
a little bit about themselves, as were members of the Village
Board. Long time residents also attended. Bob Brandt, UAF
Treasurer, gave an overview of what the Fund has accomplished
to date, spending a total of about $250,000, and what its plans
are for the future. Barb Wilhelm, UAF President, gave a short
presentation about the Unadilla Cemetery and the "famous"
train wrecker buried there, the woman who was born during a
train ride from Colorado to Hamburg, Iowa, and was named
Unadilla, and the Unadilla website and Facebook page,
where so much local and updated information can be found,
as well as local history. It was a fun evening and everyone
enjoyed themselves; what more could you want?

Thanks again to John & Gera Stilwell for sharing photos of the
1967 Nebraska Centennial. And to Marvin & Jean Lucas, whose
photos are being readied for display. We would love to share yours!
Jean will also be sharing a dress she made for the occasion and
it will be on display in the History Room.

Get well wishes to Teresa Liesemeyer and continued get well
wishes to Bruce Hassler.

This past Sunday Bev Wilhelm & Chuck Bjork hosted a noon
meal to welcome cousins Mike & Penny McCormick, from
Wisconsin. They were joined by Bob & Barb Wilhelm, Ruth
Wilhelm, Dave & Nola Johnson, Nick, Lynn, Livia, & Halle Wilhelm,
and Marcus, Brianne, Charley & Oliver Wilhelm. The conversa-
tion was great and the food was pretty darn good too!
Don't forget the Village Board meeting tonight in the
Library. The public is always welcome!

Looking for a good book? May I suggest "Nightengale"
by Kristen Hannah? If the Library doesn't have a
copy I will lend you mine!

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

Friday, 12-15-1916, The Otoe Union:
County School Superintendent Speedie visited the Unadilla
schools. The Community Band had signed up 22 members and
held their first rehearsal. Leacock Creamery was urging boys to
"get to trapping" and to bring him the furs. He was also buying
beef and horse hides and sheep skins, "paying the highest
cash prices."
