Winter was not quite here yet, but it's deep freeze arrived here
over the weekend! It was -11 at one point. On December 20,
1916, it was -20 actual temperature. It's amazing to me how the
weather this year has mirrored the weather in 1916. Where can
we go for a white Christmas? Where ever that may be, please be
safe in your travels. And Happy Holidays from the
Western Wilhelm Outpost.
A sincere thank you to the family and friends of Irma Taylor
for their generous donations to the Unadilla Cemetery
in her honor.
Thanks to these All Fund Drive contributors: Chris & Jan Moore,
Bob & Barb Brandt, John Moss, Ron Fechner, Countryside Bank,
Rick & Annette Block, Unadilla Fun Run, Tyler & Donna Crown-
over, and Gerry & Cherie Davis. You will see the results for
years to come.

The Unadilla Community Library applied and received a $1000
grant from the LIBRA Foundation in Oregon. It is a nationwide
non-profit organization that donates new, quality, hardcover
children's books to small, rural public libraries through its
BOOKS FOR CHILDREN program. We were fortunate to receive
this grant as this is the last year for the foundation.Books were
purchased through the Junior Library Guild. And purchase we
did! We were able to get 76 books tailored for kids of all ages.
Sue Saathoff reached out to patrons of the library for assistance
in the selection: Janet Oelke, Jen Foley, Leigh Luff, and Jillian
and Julia Bennett. They picked out a wonderfun variety
ensuring there is something for everyone and Sue would like
to thank them for their assistance. The books have been
received, labeled and added to the system. A "Kid's Library
Open House" is planned for Sunday, January 22 from 2 - 4 p.m.
in the Library which is located at the Community Center. Not
only will all the new books be on display and available for
check out, there will be crafts and refreshments - and a very
special guest will be there. It should be a fun day for all!

Condolences to the family and friends of Peggy Luff
on the loss of her mother.
Please note: The Bar will be closed all day
on Saturday, December 24th.

Continued get well wishes to Teresa Liesemeyer.
Next August there will be a total eclipse of the sun.
Nebraska may only see it for a few minutes, so be prepared!

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

Friday, 12-22-1916, The Otoe Union:
"1916 is about to pass away and of course the 1916 calendar
goes with it. We have a neat calendar for next year, A.D. 1917,
one of which is yours for the asking. Bank of Unadilla."
(thanks Bob Brandt for continuing this tradition.) "According
to the department's rulings the Unadilla post office must close
at 7 p.m. after Jan. 1st." Earl Halvorsen and Minnie E. Beccard,
both Unadilla, were married at Nebraska City.
