The Unadilla Area Fund met Tuesday, February 14, to discuss
what went right and what went wrong on Groundhog Day.
Thankfully most everything went right! There was a discussion
on the little kids chasing candy and getting too close to the vehicles
in the parade, so it was decided that only participants who were
walking could throw candy/prizes. Also a correction: the 4-H club
is the Better Beef Producers. Sorry kids! The food contest entries
was low, so next year it will be chili only - spread the word! The next
meeting will be Tuesday, May 2, 10:00 a.m. in the Village Library
and preparations for the annual BBQ will be discussed. The BBQ
will be held on June 24th this year.
Saturday, February 18, the Otoe County Genealogical Society met
in the Resource Room. Vice-President Carol Gobber led the
meeting, there were 6 members present and 2 visitors. Future plans
and meeting ideas were discussed. Our next program will be given
by Chris Effken on his trip to Germany. It will be held at the Syracuse
Library on March 25 at 10:30 a.m. There will be a short business
meeting before. The Resource Room will be open again on
March 18th, or call me for an appointment.

American Legion Post #100 hosted the Otoe County Legion and
Auxiliary meeting on Sunday, February 19, at the Unadilla
Community Center. Posts represented were Nebraska City,
Talmage, Palmyra, and Syracuse.

Sue Baumann, Otoe County Service Officer, gave a short pre-
sentation on veteran benefits. Ted Beilman gave a presentation
on the future renovation of the Veterans Memorial Building in
Nebraska City. He is putting together a laarge display and
information culminating on Veterans Day, November 11. Beilman
also talked about the large mural, measuring 20' X 100',
honoring Otoe County veterans to be painted by the same
gentleman who has painted the other murals in Nebraska City.

Massie-Richards American Legion Post #100 Commander
Edward Reed reads the names of deceased members as
Auxiliary President Lois Johnson places a miniature flag
on the wreath for each deceased member.
Deceased members of all posts were honored as well as a
rememberance of POW's. After the general meeting, the two
organizations separated for business meetings, coming back
together afterwards for light refreshments provided by
Auxiliary Unit #100 of Syracuse.

Did you know reycling just one aluminum can saves enough
energy to run a computer or television for 3 hours? It takes
95% less energy to make a new aluminum can from a
recycled one.

Memorial Day will be here before you know it. American flags
that are torn or disheveled should not be flown, but turned into
the local Post for proper disposal. Flying a flag in this condition
is considered very disrespectful. (They may be left at the Village
Office or Bob Wilhelm residence.)
