Over $3000 in prizes were awarded and $2160 was donated to

the Boy Scouts of America, Nebraska Children's Home, and the

Syracuse Lifter's Club. A 15% discount was provided by

Scheels for the purpose of prizes. Mark your calendars for the

Unadilla Groundhog Day Celebration on Saturday, 

February 3, 2018. The parade starts at 2:00 p.m.

Barn Quilt Classes scheduled in the Resource Room of the

Community Center: Saturday morning, 9-23, at 9:00 a.m. and

Wednesday evening, 10-4, at 7:00 p.m. Cost: $25 to complete

a 1' X 1', for $40 for a 2' X 2'. Instructor: Sharon Demaree.

Bob and I celebrated our 47th anniversary over the weekend

with a trip to Kansas City to see the WWI Museum.

What an amazing place!

It was designated as America's official WWI Museum by

Congress in 2004. It was completed and dedicated on

11-11-1926.

The entrance floor is made of glass where visitors can look

down into a field of poppies

They have displays from every country's branch of

service involved in the war. The price is very affordable.

The U.S. supplied more than 20,000 motorcycles like this

1917 Harley-Davison for use in reconnaissance,

communications, and medic operations.

We learned from Nina Jean Rohlfs that the museum

houses some of her WWI sheet music!

At our hotel, they were celebrating the formation of the

35th Infantry Division in 1917; a lot of the men were from

Kansas and Nebraska, and their headquarters was at

Ft. Leavenworth. 

It was a new experience for me to get around downtown

through the LINKS (above street level covered walkways),

and of course there's lots of places to shop, and

Union Station. All in all, a great 3 days!

Friday, 9-14-1917, The Otoe Union:

There were 136 women who registered for the War Effort

in Russell Precinct. One woman was 72 and another 81.

The first six ladies in line were born in Germany.

"A.H. Soflin was building two large barns on the Kimmel

farms occupied by A. Beckard and Otto Koch."
