HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYONE!
REMINDER: Village Board Meeting Tonight
2-14-2018, Village Library, 7:30 p.m.
Correction: there were 54 entries in the Groundhog Day
parade. Would also like to say thank you to Dave Hall and
Nathan Bischoff for organizing and lining up those parade
entrants, and to Mark Czapla for the additional photography.
(If I've missed anyone, don't be afraid to call me on it!)
We would also like to note all the positive feedback we
received on the History and Veterans Rooms. They are
available for viewing anytime during Village Office regular
hours. They will be open again this Saturday in conjunction
with the music program/Quilt of Valor presentation.

Continued get well wishes to Sheila Glathar and
Rich Lechner.

The celebration of WWI will probably go on into the
end of next year. Did you know Nebraska's most decorated
WWI combat pilot was a native of Weeping Water and is
credited with shooting down five German planes? His name -
Orville Ralston! Unadilla area sent its share of men to France.
One of them, William "Billie" Massie, is half the namesake of
Massie-Richards American Legion Post #100.
All the photos are loaded and available for you to look at.

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

(WWI Red Cross Nurse & Dog)
Friday, 2-13-1918, The Otoe Union:
George Brandt was home on furlough and a party was thrown
in his honor. Ralph Whipple was moving to Henry, Nebraska.
E.S. Carper reporting 100 sets of harness so far in the new
year. "Mr. George West, 2nd son of Ellis West, and Miss
Dessie Luff, 2nd daughter of Thomas Luff, were marriede in
Lincoln, February 7th." The Paisley community held a
"wood-chopping bee." For the first time in the Unadilla paper,
"Grandview" had its own column. (I'm assuming this was
the community around School District #85?)
