Sunday we celebrate Earth Day, the first being in 1970. It is
credited with launching the modern environmental movement.
Recycling is another benefit from this celebration.

The following Friday will be Arbor Day. A great week to plant trees
and shrubs,if Mother Nature will just cooperate! It may be
snowing again as you read this!

Can you believe Craig Kimbell and Larry Boardman are
turning 60? Friends gathered to help them celebrate at the
Duncan Building Saturday night. Always learn something
from these guys!
Unadilla native Rochelle Rohlfs has been named for 2018
induction into the Nebraska High School Sports Athletic Hall of
Fame on September 23, 2018 at East High School in Lincoln.

Unadilla residents remember Rochelle as the pitcher for our
girls' softball team for 8 years. She received All-State and
All-Conference honors in basketball and volleyball at SDA
and was a medalist on the 1985 state champion track team in
the discus event. She won the American Legion Scholar
Athlete Award and Athlete of the Year honors her senior year.
Rochelle then played volleyball, softball and basketball for
Peru State during her collegiate athletic career.
Rochelle spent her entire coaching career at Omaha Marian
High School, coaching volleyball for 26 years and soccer for
2 years. Her soccer team was state runner-up both of those
years, and in volleyball her teams won 4 state championships,
4 state runner-up titles, played in 21 state tournaments, and had
an overall total of 718 wins.
Named 2014 Nebraska Girls' Coach of the Year and in 2016,
Rochelle was named one of the top 5 coaches of girls' sports
in the nation by the USHSAA. In the 2015-2016 school year she
was promoted to Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at
Omaha Marian High School, the position she holds today.
We are huge fans! Congratulations Rochelle!

Bob Brandt will again sponsor the community garden west of
Nitty Gritty. Participants need to keep their plot weed free, and
you must give half your crops to the residents of Unadilla who
are over 70 or disabled. Please let Bob know if you would like
to receive some of this bounty at 402-269-7272.
We're coming up on that time of year again!
