Big city crime is making its way to our small towns. Over the weekend,
Nitty Gritty was broken into and robbed. More disconcerting was the
fact that they had a gun, probably a pellet gun, and shot out one of
the glass entry doors. I imagine that a pellet gun could do some damage
to people also.

Corinne at th Village Office is still in need of helpers for the water
slide on June 23rd. Can you help her out? Give her a call
at 402-828-5355.

Sue Saathoff reports the Memorial Day Luncheon was another
sucess! About 70 people enjoyed a nice meal provided by the
Unadilla Community Library. Sue says thank you all for attending
and a big, big thank you to: Village Board members for setting
up and taking down tables and chairs, and the HUGE fan, which
was greatly appreciated due to such a hot day; Joyce Schulze for
preparing the sloppy joes (they were delicious as always);
Glenda Willnerd, Sheila Downey, Peggy Leefers and Alberta
Block for preparing, serving, and cleaning up - great job ladies!
Also another thank you to Peggy Leefers for obtaining funds
through Thrivent, which covered the cost of supplies and food!
Barb Wilhelm manned the Veterans Room and Sharon Demaree
and Corey Schulze played host in the History Room. They were
enjoyed by most of the attendees. It was nice to see everyone
enjoying their meal while visiting with friends, neighbors and
family. Plus it managed to raise some funds to benefit the
Library. Thanks again to all who helped and attended.

Thirty-six Unadilla High School Alumni, spouses and friends,
gathered on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the Duncan Building on
Unadilla's Main Street, to honor past graduates. The evening was
opened with the Flag Salute and the Lord's Prayer, followed by a
wonderful carry-in dinner, complete with fried chicken, delicious
side dishes and desserts. It was enjoyed by all present.
"Unadilla, An Arboretum Village" was the theme for the evening
and a special program was given by Bob Brandt. He talked about
the trees in the Village, being a member of the Nebraska Statewide
Arboretum, and the advantages of tree planting in the community.
Many present were not aware of the effort put forth in planting
trees around town for the past several years and greatly enjoyed
Brandt's presentation.
Honorees from the class of 1958 were Marilyn Schreiner, Robert
Callaway, and Milton Leefers. They were the last class to graduate
from Unadilla High School. Shirley Fensler, Rolly Kastens and
Lee Clark represented the Class of 1953. Lillie Rockenbach was
the only one from the Class of 1948, as Jean Lucas and Dick
Mohlman could not attend. Jack Stilwell represented the Class of
1943. The highlight of the evening was Roland Rodaway being
present to celebrate the 80 year Class of 1938. Other honored
alumni were Berdean West and Glen Wyatt, Class of 1941; Rose
Marie Brandt, Class of 1942, and Lois Ebert, Class of 1944. Bob
Fey, Class of 1945, passed the week before and thoughts and
prayers were given for his family. He was missed by all those
present.
Goodie bags put together by Barb & Milton Leefers were given
to each attendee and centerpieces were given to the oldest
person at each table. Organizers reminded everyone dinner will
be the same time and place in 2019. See you next year!

Thanks to Judy Stoner Pope and Jim & Marilyn Schreiner
for their generous donations to the Unadilla Cemetery. It is
most appreciated!
