Reminder from the Village Board:
If residents have trees on their property that are hanging over the street so that vehicles have to drive around them, it is the resident's responsibility to cut them back and away from the street. Remember, school buses will be traveling our streets in 2 weeks and they don't have as much room to manuever as cars do!

Bob Wilhelm and his bingo minions would like to thank everyone who patronized the bingo stand at
the Otoe County Fair. Proceeds go to local youth programs and is sponsored by the American
Legion, VFW and Sons of the American Legion.
Thirty-one local residents, family and friends of the Brandt family were treated to a delightful
concert by John Weber at the home of Rose Marie Brandt. John is Rose's son-in-law and lives
in Mesa, Arizona. Among his many amazing talents, he rescues abandoned pipe organs and
rebuilds them. Two of these "orphans" live in Rose's basement and John played both, along

with a duet with Rose. Both organs were made in the 1940's. The one pictured with John in
the photo was rescued from a church in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

The other is from the Phoenix Boy's Choir, which was discarded after a ride in an unsecured
trailer. Light refreshments were served and it was a most enjoyable afternoon.
Thanks for the invite!

Continued get well wishes to Brody Hitzemann, Jason Schomerus, Brett Dettmer,
Nina Rohlfs and Cindy Bassinger.
Can you believe it's August already? School will start on the 14th this year.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by the OCGS booth at the Fair. We joined forces with
four lineage societies and they honored 2 Vietnam veterans who came through the Exhibition
Building. Met lots of new people and enjoyed the many stories/memories that were told. Most
of them were about attending the fair, 4-H, the rides, and the dances at Elms Ballroom.
It's changed quite a bit in the last 50 years!

A milestone was reached at the Christian Church Sunday morning. Roland Rodaway, who
is about to turn 100, served his last time in his position as Elder. He has been one of the
leaders of the church since before I moved to town in 1959. What a wonderful friend he is
to all in the community.

Former resident, Mike Royal, is competing in the Vision Impaired World Championship.
He has already won a gold medal. Mike is the son of Marvin Royal and Betty (Tackett)
Abel. Good luck from your hometown!
Please do not let grass from mowing your lawns get thrown into the street; it
clogs up the storm drains. Thank you!
