Lot's of people like to take out their frustrations on the folks who work for the Post Office, but here's something that will make you smile: Marvin and Jean Lucas live along Highway #2 and every year at Christmas time they put up a nativity scene that you can see from the road. This year they received a postcard that was simply addressed to "Resident", "Highway 2", Unadilla, NE. It said how much they enjoyed seeing the nativity displayed. Their carrier or someone at the Syracuse Post Office took the time to ask around and identify Lucas' address and delivered the card to them, which they SO appreciated. Kudos to those who took that extra step!

NEST529 “Why I Want to Go to College” Writing Sweepstakes Now Open
(Lincoln) For the 18th year, Nebraska State Treasurer John Murante and the Omaha Storm Chasers will be sponsoring the “Why I Want to Go to College” writing sweepstakes, with entries due Friday, March 27, 2020.
Prizes will be awarded to 12 winners who will receive contributions to the Nebraska Educational Savings Trust (NEST) college savings accounts – including $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third place. Three winners will be chosen from each of Nebraska’s three Congressional districts, and three winners will be chosen from outside Nebraska.
Each Nebraska winner will receive four tickets to the Sunday, May 3rd Storm Chasers game at Werner Park in Papillion at 2:05 p.m. where they will be recognized during the game.
“This event is such a highlight of just how inspiring the NEST529 program can be. It is a wonderful way to challenge students to focus on their goals, improve their writing skills, and learn the importance of saving for their education. I’m looking forward to meeting the winners and their families at Werner Park,” said State Treasurer John Murante.
Families can save for college for their children and grandchildren through NEST529, the state-sponsored 529 college savings program that allows for tax-free investments and tax-free qualified withdrawals. Nebraska account owners can qualify for up to $10,000 a year in state income tax deductions.
Students are asked to reflect on the value of education and what they hope to achieve through higher education. Entries are limited to 750 words and should be sent to Andrea Bedore, Omaha Storm Chasers, 12356 Ballpark Way, Papillion, NE 68046.

Friday, 1-23-1920, The Otoe Union:
Miss Osie Abbott was on the sick list. W.M. Duncan (original owner and builder of the Duncan Building) died in Mannford, Oklahoma. He had represented Otoe County in the state legislature. The town board considered buying a "chemical engine to control fires in the village" but it was postponed due to the waterworks proposition. Residents were excited about the possible addition of street lights; they would "get the juice" from Nebr. City.

40th Annual Quack-Off
We’re only days away from the 40th Annual Quackoff, we hope you all are getting as excited we are... We just wanted to put a few reminders out there for everyone that’s coming whether you’re an experienced quackoffer or this is your first one.
•This is a fundraiser for the Avoca Volunteer Fire Department, all donations are greatly appreciated and go towards life saving equipment and training for our volunteers. There will be a boot to collect donations at the town hall and also there will be Fire Fighters walking around with a boot to fill with donations.
•Make sure you bring cash as there will be no ATM or credit card machines available.
•Registration is the same $25 and will be at the town hall as always. T-shirts are also $25, make sure to get your 40th annual shirt to show off to everyone who didn’t come.
•The event is BYOB but there will be a Beer Garden with alcohol and food sales at the intersection of House St. and Teft St. right between the town hall and the race track. Beer garden and food is brought to you by Baileys local of Eagle Ne. There will also be concessions at the town hall as well.
•The races will be held at the tennis court as always.
• Make sure to dress for the weather as this is an outdoor event and it is the end of January.
•Make sure to take pictures and tag us on Facebook @duckraces to share your experience!
•Most importantly make sure you have a great time and be safe!
