Do you have a quilt you made that you would like to display? Or perhaps a quilt your mother or grandmother made? If so, we would love to include them in the Groundhog Day Celebration QUILT SHOW on Saturday, February 6th. The more quilts, the better! Condolences to Ken Nolting and family on the passing

of his wife Lena Rae on Monday, January 25. A memorial

service will be held Friday, January 29, at the

Unadilla Community Center.

51 people attended the Holiday Party for the American Legion

and VFW posts, on Friday night, January 22, at the Syracuse

Country Club. A wonderful meal and amazing desserts were

served by Teten Catering. After the meal, attendees participated

in "How well do you know Nebraska Towns?" The winner,

Gerald Neemann, won concert tickets to "Home Free" at the

Rococo Theater, and something blue to keep him warm. Those

attending from Unadilla: Tyler & Donna Crownover, Chuck &

Bev Bjork, Ron & Lois Johnson, Ed & Virginia Reed, and

Bob Wilhelm.

Are you planning on coming to the Community Center on

Feb. 6th? A new genealogy friend, Donna Duerksen, from

Kansas, will have a table set up in the gym and is looking to

connect with those of you descended from S.T. Lyon and I.P.

Taylor. I know there are lot of you out there, so please come

and meet with her!

Book Club_reading

The Books & Brew Book Club met Tuesday, January 19,

in the Community Library with 3 members present. It was

a short meeting and thanks to Nina Jean Rohlfs for the

donuts! Next meeting will be February 16, in the library,

at 10:00 a.m. and the book will be "O Pioneers" by Willa

Cather. Please join us if you can!

Once again dogs are the subject of conversation: please

remember that once your pet leaves your property, it needs

to be on a leash.

the (railroad) car situations is getting very bad. (referring

CO, and planned to move there, stating thay had the best

crops he'd ever seen.

Nebraska Tourism Commission announces educational webinars for 2016

LINCOLN, NE (January 20, 2016)— For a second year, Nebraska Tourism will be conducting monthly and quarterly informational industry webinars. “We found the webinars in 2015 to be quite helpful,” said Nebraska Tourism Commission Executive Director, Kathy McKillip. “Each session gives those in the tourism industry a chance to stay up to date on events, marketing tools, programs and more, without having to make a trip across the state. The webinars are a great way to stay connected and a continuous way to share information.”

A full list of this year’s webinars are listed below, with the first scheduled for January 27 at 2:00pm (CST), which will be a quarterly update. The webinars will last about 1 hour and we will reserve time at the end for a Q&A session. An email address to send questions for the Q&A will be provided during the webinar.

The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska will be hosting a special "Schoolhouse Celtic Fiddling Camp", for fiddlers, violists, mandolinists, guitarists, and ukulele players. Music from Ireland, Scotland, and Wales will be featured. The sessions will be led by championship fiddler and author, Deborah Greenblatt. Each participant will receive a copy of Deborah's latest publication, the Celtic Fiddler's Song Book.

The camp will be on Wednesday, March 9 - Friday, March 11, from 9 AM to 1 PM. You can sign up for 1 day, or 2 days, or all 3 days.

On Wednesday, participants will be mostly reading tunes, using sheet music in standard notation. We'll be learning melodies, harmonies, and chords. You will be improving your sight reading, and experiencing fiddling fun.

On Thursday, we will be mostly playing tunes by ear, so feel free to bring your recording gadgets. Sheet music versions of the tunes will be provided for you by the end of the day, just in case your ears need the help.

On Friday, we will be mostly jamming, modulating, singing, dancing, experimenting, sharing, and playing fiddle related instruments.

One day: $60.00
Two days: $110.00 ($55 per day)
Three days: $150.00 fee for 3 days. ($50 per day)
